Leeds United have returned to top tier football

Celebrations were high at Elland Road last night (July 23rd 2020) as Leeds United are set to return to the Premier League through an automatic promotion from the championship under manager Marcelo Bielsa, after a long-awaited, 16 year absence from the top tier league. They were relegated in 2004 from the top tier league and even dropped to the third tier division of League One before coming back up to the Championship.

Leeds last won a top tier title in 1992, lifting the First Division in the final season before the Premier League was born. The thought of Leeds being a top contender in top tier football has become a second-thought to the younger fans of Leeds after FA Cup and League Cup success was back in 1972 and 1968. However, Marcelo Bielsa has brought a new wave of optimism into the club with the promotion to the Premier League.

Andrea Radrizzani, the owner of Leeds United has confirmed that he is indeed interested in signing ex-PSG striker Edison Cavani into the ranks of the club, after failing to sign Zlatan Ibrahimović back in January. Cavani’s contract with PSG came to an end this summer and so is therefore a free agent, the striker is one potential target signing for the club as they make preparations to return to the Premier League. More signings and news will be most likely to follow as Leeds United look to strengthen their team in time to compete with Premier League regulars.
